Lee Roy Selmon's existence is one of football scholarship, family work as well as community involvement. He was the youngest son from Lucious Selmon, and Jessie Selmon. They took care of him at the family farm near Eufala. The Selmons were also among the three brothers who played for Oklahoma in football. The three brothers were all All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey & Lee Roy started for one season in 1973. Lee Roy received the Outland & Lombardi Awards for being the most effective lineman in the US. Over the course of three seasons, Oklahoma was 32-1-1 with Roy serving as their starting line-up. Also, they won 2 national titles. He received a third scholarship in 1975 and designated a National Football Foundation Student-Athlete. Selmon was awarded a degree from education. Lee Roy spent ten hours a week on volunteer work during his college years. In Tampa where he played, he joined the Buccaneers nine seasons and became an all-pro. Additionally, he started a career in business. In 1988, while working as an account representative at First Florida Bank of Tampa He was a member of the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. No wonder that in 1982 the Junior Chamber of Commerce named him as one of the country's top 10 young men. While a student Lee Roy was 6-2 and weighs a little over 256 lbs. He captained his college team in 1975. In 1993, he was appointed the associate director of Athletics at the University of South Florida. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame since 1988. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation gave their Distinguished American Award, to Mr. Lucious Selmon and his wife. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor who presented this award.
