Despacito is a hit song from Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi together with Daddy Yankee was released in 2017. It was the top one streamed music at that in just six months. The track is a mixture of pop music and reggaeton was not only a way to bring renewed interest to reggaeton but it also brought attention to Latin music more generally. In 2015 there were two songs that were predominantly Spanish-language on Billboard's Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. In the midst of Despacito's popularity in 2017 however 19 predominantly Spanish songs made it onto the Top 100 for 2020. there were 41 of them. The release of Justin Bieber's bilingual version to Despacito (2017) well-known artists quickly began to collaborate with reggaeton performers including Drake and Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) as well as Madonna and Maluma for Medellin (2019). In 2020, a few Reggaeton performers were complaining about how the genre was moving toward the mainstream. But, the younger generation Rauw Alejandro, was keen to push forward the progression. It often blended elements from electronic dance music and other types.
